Penelope Cruz to Get Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame this Friday

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has announced that Penelope Cruz will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this Friday, April 1, at 11:30 a.m., in front of the El Capitan Theatre.

On the chamber's website it's stated that, "Cruz has proven herself to be one of the most versatile actresses by playing a variety of compelling characters, and most recently, becoming the first actress from Spain to be nominated and to win an Oscar."

The timing of the honor comes just before the release of her latest film "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," set to hit theaters on May 20th.

According to both the Penelope Cruz Wikipedia entry and IMDb bio page, the actress made her feature film debut in the 1992 Spanish language film Jamon Jamon.  Since then, she has gone on to star alongside some of Hollywood's biggest names. Most recently, she played Carmen Garcia Carrion in the 2010 film, "Sex and the City 2."

The Walk of Fame is a top Hollywood tourist attraction, and Friday's ceremony will mark the 2,436th Star to be added since 1960.  It stretches some 15 blocks along Hollywood Boulevard, and another three on Vine.

Each year, several new celebrities are honored with the very public symbol of achievement.
